The Academy Awards Has Writers?

by Gladstone

So the WGA strike is over and with the Oscars almost upon us the writers have been scribbling away furiously for 13 hours a day to put together the kind of quality we’ve come to expect from the Academy Awards. Frankly, I find that hard to believe — That is, I did find it hard to believe until I saw this video of one such dedicated scribe, hard at work, delivering Oscar-quality comedy.

Check out some more Gladstone. HERE and HERE.

I think it’s an utter shame that no one’s commented on this video yet.

Kudos, Sir. The timing and delivery of “Jon Stewart enters … takes a breath … farts” followed instantly by the Oscar music really killed me.

Also, was that Small Wonder? Nothing wrong with a Small Wonder reference every once and awhile, especially in these trying times.

  2. Ross Wolinsky Says:

Agreed. This is probably going to land you a job with the Academy.

  3. Gladstone Says:

Thank you. High praise indeed. Yes, Small Wonder. Ain’t none higher.

  4. Miss Debater Says:

DAMN. Funny stuff, definitely, but I gotta say I winced just a little at the Heath Ledger bit…

  5. mellowship Says:

    is that a snorg t-shirt?

  6. Gladstone Says:

Sssh! I’m trying to keep the product placement bucks hush hush.

  7. Reverend Dr. Shaka Luther Khan P.I Says:

Fucking Aye, good sir. The oscars comedy sucks more dick than a low self esteemed teenage girl. I’m not asking for some hillarious shit, but the jokes the presenters make are fucking cringeworthy.

Spread the Gospel, Know the Truth, Be The Man. You not knowing, now you do.

  8. Reverend Dr. Shaka Luther Khan P.I Says:

Oh yeah, also. I still like butts.

  9. Andy Pants Says:

This is like the opposite of the sketch on cracked news.

    Which reminds me…

WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO LEX FRIEDMAN?!?!?!

  10. kingmonkey Says:

So, the Oscars are scripted? Not just well-improvised? Are you telling me someone intentionally wrote those words to put in Billy Crystal’s mouth? On purpose?

  11. lbh Says:

Number 1 reason to skip the Oscars : the “witty repartee”

Number 1 reason to watch the Oscars: to witness Jon Stewart let one rip at the podium.

(I’d totally tune in for that)

  12. Gladstone Says:

When I realized Jon Stewart was hosting I almost didn’t do this because I would never disrespect him or his writers, but then I heard the academy was also bringing in some of their standard go to guys to help out.

  13. lbh Says:

Don’t get me wrong, I love Stewart & The Daily Show. But the dude did cross a picket line so he’s fair game. Stewart and his writers(if they’re helping out) will likely be writing his bits and any major in-between bits. I think it’s safe to assume the Academy hacks will be responsible for the predictable “cringeworthy” banter the other presenters will be forced to recite.

  14. Heather Says:

The Small Wonder thing kills me. I’m not sure why, but it does.

  15. Ren Says:

Doesn’t Bruce Villanch write most of the Oscar jokes? So like, Jesus could be delivering them, and it’d still be okay to make fun of him for it.

  16. lbh Says:

If He’s fronting as Bruce Villanch’s mouthpiece instead of His dad then, yes, I think it is.

  17. Londoninfotech Says:

    he write jokes !

Last night, I mentioned that I didn’t want to watch the Oscars. I did it in a real smug, superior way. My woman (formerly glendoor42’s wife) looked like she was going to smack me. I hadn’t really stopped to realize how deeply important the Oscars are to some people. I just don’t understand it. I mean, I enjoy watching group masturbation as much as the next guy, but seriously, the Oscars? If I start putting on parties to give my friends awards, and try to televise it, people will realize that I’m just a glory-seeking ego hound. Somehow when America’s Best People do it, it becomes worthy of national (even international) attention?

  19. glendoor42 Says:

Good job Gladstone. That was funny. If I may make a suggestion though, more chest hair.
( Best lines ,to me anyway, Heath Leger and Johnny Depp.)
