You are completely screwed over if you want to play it as an action title because you’re NOT SUPPOSED TO KILL ANYONE. At least in MGS 1 and yes, even 2 at least you could KILL the bosses, but since 3 you even have to tranq them or risk loosing out on items.

I mean, anti-war message aside what exactly are your enemies firing at you? Harsh language? Tampons? You should be able to fucking KILL someone who’s trying to do the same to you.

You’re given all this kick-ass weaponry, some truly awesome action sequences. The Shagohod chase in MGS 3 is a prime example. You can’t go apeshit and mow down everyone in the base or on the bikes following you, o no, like a pussy boy you should just tranq them off their bike so they crash and die anyway, I mean WTF?

And screw the idea of added challenge, there are better ways to do it than taking away the satisfaction of being a complete bad-ass. Video games have been about killing shit in supremely satisfying ways since space invaders.

For me, it ruins every single MGS game there is.

The MGS games are a real hoot but there are some flaws with them, thanks for pointing some out. I’m surprised you didn’t state the whole “repeat last word(s) as question in order to trigger further mundane exposition in dull-as-dishwater codec sequence” thing, but generally quite a good list.

One other thing… there is a point where if you kill enough drones on alert mode (non-scripted “standard gameplay” sequences) no more will be sent out. You have to kill a lot of them though, so infinite ammo helps.
