Meh, it would require either great multilateral cooperation or a global taxation to raise $14 from each person, and not all people have $14, or even money for that matter, and the objection that it would be unfair to ask the people of the global South and the working classes of the global North to pay as much as the wealthy would surely be raised and fought over endlessly.
ReplyThat was a good one actually!

Replydude, way to much said, you have succeeded in writing more words in your comment than there is in the article, i didnt even read it, too much!
yeah mate your right, it is just a comic so dont waste your time writing looong comments about it, get over it XD
ok you will say "but your comment is loong" . . . . yeah, well, ummm, lets not get into THAT arguement now . . . bonsoir x
Another chuckle-worthy submission for Daisy Owl, doing pretty good so far. A couple more like that one and I may have to check out the whole archive. The art isn't perfect, but neither is most of the comics in the newspaper, or anywhere else. I like the point this comic makes, too. Its similar to how people will complain about politicians, but they vote more for American Idol than for political elections. Its like how gamers will play sports games instead of actually going outside.
ReplyI think its amazing though, you make a comic making a joke about how people would rather buy "Mission to Mars" rather than fund a real mission to Mars, and everyone starts bitching about how not EVERYONE would have $14 to spend on that because of global poverty. No, really? I did not know that, thank you for bringing your superior knowledge into the comment section for a COMIC! Seriously, I would never want to watch an over-the-top action movie with you guys. Every ten minutes, "There's no way he could
@ Yarsday: Still not right, not all people in the developed world are adults that have the money. And hey, I wouldn't be bitching if the comic was funny. It gets facts wrong and humor wrong. Asking for a bitching.
Replyredjimmy what is your freaking problem?? i hope you were saying this as a joke, because otherwise you're a heartless little fucker.
Replyid love to see you, and all those who think like you live a single day like one of these people. sure, they'll always be around, but saying that it's a waste to spend on them? fucking heartless. no wonder third world countries hate americans.
If we had always spent money on the poor instead of investing it in science and technology, we'd still be in the dark ages. The poor will always be around, even in a welfare state. Many are there because they deserve to be there, and those who don't will find a way to climb out of it.
ReplyHence why Russia, despite the collapse of the Soviet Empire has picked herself up and is rapidly becoming a superpower again, yet despite billions in aid, most of Africa remains a basketcase.
So go to Mars already - spending it on the 3rd world is just a waste
if we had always spent money on the poor they would be rich and we would be poor :P
Maybe Bill Gates could go to Mars?
ReplyPeople below the poverty line should have to pay double. I don't want to pay $14, but I'd like to see this happen, and who gives a fuck if some Guatemalan dude has to pik up my slack?
ReplyBeware the Phantom Time Traveler! He goes back in time and changes the past. It's his hobby. Warn your friends and family about the Phantom Time Traveler! His actions are constantly changing your life and mine. History cannot be left in the hands of an individual! What has already been done is not meant to be undone. Petition the government! Let them know about the danger he poses. If we can convince the government of the problem, they may be able to build a machine that can detect ripples caused by time travel. Then, the next time he comes back from the past or future, we can catch him! BEWARE THE PHANTOM TIME TRAVELER! Your life could be completely ruined in the past, and you won't even know it! You might have been rich, but after the Phantom Time Traveler changed something, you're not, and don't remember it! You might lose your memories of today as well! A wise man once said "Do not squander time. That is the stuff life is made of." Surely, destroying the precious lives of othe

ReplyCost of a mission to mars: 100 Billion Dollars
ReplyBenefit of said mission: Questionable
{Being able to find a better way to spend money that could otherwise eliminate the following with: diseases that we already have cures to, poverty, starvation, lack of a proper water supply, etc}: Priceless
Is this one of those comics where the punchline is that there is no punchline? If so, I still don't get it.
Replylol, don't judge me Yarp. :P
ReplySure, you could pay 14 of you're hard earned(or not) dollars to watch someone else go to Mars and make experiments. Hell, I'd pay 100 if they take ME...
ReplyDaisy Owl is one of the funniest comics going.
ReplyAnd to shut the people like civver up, who go on about how 5 billion people on the planet couldn't shell out the $14:
Cost of a mission to Mars: $100 000 000 000
Number of persons in the developed world: 1,023,751,100
Cost of a mission to Mars, split evenly between us in the developed world: $97.68 USD
Or about as much as you spend on beer and porn in a year(more likely less than).
Even more depressing... this is not an untruth
ReplyThere are enough rich assholes to cover for the poor people. It'll all work out.
Replydaedmau5, you know what the irony is? You think being aware of the hypocrisy puts you above it. Just like I think being aware of YOUR hypocrisy puts me above it. (And someone else is aware/above MY hypocrisy, and so on.)
